As part of Chicago Artist Month 2015, Mujeres Mutantes Collective brought together a local Chicago women & street artists exhibition at Cultura in Pilsen on Saturday, October 10, 2015. 30 women artists will exhibit their works created on model size billboards by Boundless Brooklyn. Revista Contratiempo’s Hecho en Chicago live poetry readings and Sounds by DJ duo The Ponderers and DJ Rebel Betty will complete this fantastic event! Come on out!
Back in 2007 I was lucky to road-trip out with friends to paint at my first B-Girl Be Summit at Intermedia Arts in Minneapolis. I can’t believe this weekend is their 10 year reunion exhibition! I am so honored to be an exhibiting Artist. Show opens June 11 and runs thru August 22, 2015. So happy and proud of the work Intermedia Arts continues to do!
This Friday we celebrate the release of our 2nd issue of MUTANTES! Art Zine! Art, grooves and great people will gather. The “All of Me” Body Positivity and Zine Release Party will kick off the summer arts events for us here in Chi-Town.
Hello again! I’ve been meaning to post the latest but as we all artists know, sometimes projects and deadlines can come so close and almost collide! The solo exhibition was a great success thanks to Leticia at Reciclarte Studio and my friends and family that came out to support! Thank you!
Chicago Zine Fest came overnight it seems after that! The entire month of April was spent finalizing a personal story and putting my zine GODZILLA GRRRL together for release at the fest. This first volume includes my story from scrappy teen tagger through today painting graffiti murals with my girls in Chicago. If you are in the Chicago area, you can purchase at Pilsen Out Post and Quimby’s Bookstore. You can also email me directly for a copy. $6.00 USD + shipping.
I had such a great time attending interesting panels and meeting some pretty awesome zinesters. CZF was overall a very welcoming and highly inspirational experience! I hope to return next year.
In May I received some pretty great news. The proposal I submitted to exhibit at the 10 year reunion of the B-Girl Be Summit in Minneapolis was accepted! If you have read Godzilla Grrrl you know things just keep coming full circle. Art is life! So the month of May was dedicated to the completion of that proposal project. Details and pictures in my next post!
Love and art.
Loss, misunderstandings or life’s changes can all lead to an aching heart. We can all relate to longing for people, for places, for change. Some will runaway to follow their dreams and some will stay and kiss those people goodbye.
My very first solo exhibition is all about yearning hearts, runaways and goodbyes. “Wish You Were Here” will feature all new illustration and hand-craft work. Opens April 3, 2015 at Reciclarte Studio, 1441 W. 18th Street in the Pilsen neighborhood of my sweet home Chicago .
For those who cannot be at the opening. The show will runs 4/3/15 thru 5/1/15.
Reciclarte shop hours are: Friday & Saturday (10 am – 8 pm) and Sundays (10 am – 7 pm).
Thank you to all for your continued support!

Sometimes there are paintings that are not quite done. Above (minus the fire colors) is the first painting I created in January of this new year. I was thinking of winter. A few months ago, one of our Mujeres Mutantes members out in New Mexico told us about a show she’d be curating for February 2015. I was reminded of the show last month and had decided on the new painting. But again, something was missing. So I meditated this morning and I thought of fire. My sporadic bursts of energy and my part in this universe. I worked on cleaning it up and here it is almost done.
“Reverberate Her Lines” is taking place in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Queens Under Estimated and El Chante Casa de Cultura will highlight some very talented women graffiti artists, MCs, poets and B-Girl performances from all corners. Some of my paint buddies are going out there and reppin’ Chicago. If you are in the area check it out. You can also still donate funds for this event by going to: www.gofundme.com/kquxrc
The last two weeks I’ve been working on a neat project for this “Back Panels” show taking place tonight at Solid State Goods in Pilsen, Chicago.
Back in the late 70’s and thru the 80’s folks used to get artistic on their denim and leather jackets do-it-yourself style.
When invited to participate, I was captivated by the concept! I chose to paint one of my Monstrochika characters on a denim jacket.
I can’t wait to see what all the artists have come up with!
I’ll post pics on Instagram tonight.

Art is what makes us human. The arts brings people together. It brings us hope, love and light.
The people took over Lake Shore Drive last night here in Chicago in the name of Michael Brown. They woke those in motion just moving along on their routine commute. Some were bothered but I’m sure others were moved. You are not human if you are not moved when you see people around you standing up for what is right.
Tomorrow Quennect 4 Gallery & Pachanka Music have put together a show called “Rebels Never Die: Resistencia Cultural”. I am exhibiting a new painting inspired by a young girl’s right to education. So many young girls worldwide are denied this right because of socio economic status, gender stereotypes and religious customs or traditions.

“We honor our indigenous roots, unique cultures and resistance movements through art, music and community dialogue revolving around shared anti-colonial values to create a space for dialogue with the urban, native and affected community.”
Dia de los Muertos festivities begin this weekend! The souls of our dead ancestors and other loved ones return to visit and walk among the living. We create beautiful altars with ofrendas of all their favorite foods, drinks and treats to let them know we are praying for them and have not forgotten them.
The 4th Annual Beautiful Souls Coffin Show has quickly become a Chicago artist tradition. All thanks to Delilah Salgado, curator, artist, mentor, and long time advocate for the arts in the Pilsen community. You must come out and see this wonderful show she has put together and the works of art on these coffins will impress!
Opening Reception: Saturday, November 1, 2014 @ 7:00 PM at Cultura in Pilsen, 1900 S. Carpenter, Chicago, IL.
Elevarte Community Studio is also holding their Annual Muertos de la Risa celebration and Dia de los Muertos procession. They are located right around the corner from where the coffin show exhibition will take place. There is fun for the whole family starting at 2:00 pm and the always stellar Dia de los Muertos procession begins at 5:00 pm!
End your evening with coffin art and DJ beats at the Beautiful Souls Coffin Show! See you there friends.
